Forever Free Session One

About the Forever Free Project

The Forever Free Project is a community initiative led by Suncoast Waterkeeper to better understand the safety of drinking water in North Port, FL. Early research suggests PFAS (also known as “forever chemicals”) may be present in local water. These chemicals don’t break down easily and may pose health risks over time.

By signing up, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Learn what PFAS are and why they matter
  • Submit a tap water sample for free testing by a certified lab
  • Receive your results directly, along with guidance on next steps
  • Request a free water filter if needed and eligible

Together, we’ll identify if PFAS are present and work toward solutions that protect our community’s health. Read more about the program and Suncoast Waterkeeper HERE

Please Note: This program is currently only for residents of the City of North Port.

What is PFAS?

PFAS are a group of synthetic chemicals used in everyday products like cookware and clothing. They are called “forever chemicals” because, unlike other chemicals, they do not degrade in the environment.

Why do we test?

Since “forever chemicals” never degrade, they just accumulate over time. Their presence in the environment, our waters and our bodies, can build up as we consume more. Long-term exposure to PFAS can result in health impacts such as thyroid disease, immune system dysfunction, and cancer. It could also impact fertility, birth weight and development in infants. Testing the water quality is the first step! It allows us to learn more about the amounts present in our drinking water and lets YOU know if you need to filter your drinking water.
