Year after year, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection allows the City of Largo to violate its Wastewater Treatment Plant permit. Now on the SEVENTH Consent Order, time and again, the City fails to meet its effluent limitations for Nitrogen, Fecal and Bromo and the DEP keeps giving them a pass. Suncoast Waterkeeper and Tampa Bay Waterkeeper brought a Clean Water Act Citizen's Suit to force the City to fix their leaky collection system and reduce the pollution loads from the outfall of their WTP that are polluting Old Tampa Bay at Feather Sound. Tampa Bay has made great strides towards reducing human sources of Nitrogen that have contributed to algae blooms and hindered the recovery of seagrasses in the estuary. Largo needs to do their part.
